Spaceborne Atom-Interferometry Gravity Gradiometry Design towards Future Satellite Gradiometric Missions

نویسندگان

چکیده

Atom-interferometry gravity gradiometry has been developed as a promising technique for future gradiometric missions after GOCE due to its greater sensitivity in micro-gravity environments and constant performance over the measurement bandwidth. In this paper, feasible method of spaceborne atom-interferometry is proposed by utilizing free-fall condition cold atoms space. Compared with GOCE, which shows an in-orbit noise 10~20 mE/Hz1/2, scheme described paper would achieve high 1.9 mE/Hz1/2 gradients reducing orbital altitude optimizing interrogation time atom interferometry. The results show that could significantly augment spectral content field degree order 280~316 resolve global improved accuracy 0.2 cm@100 km 0.85 cm@80 terms geoid height, 0.06 mGal@100 0.3 mGal@80 anomaly 1270 days data collection.

Sensitive gravity-gradiometry with atom interferometry: progress towards an improved determination of the gravitational constant

We present here the current status of our high-sensitivity gravitygradiometer based on atom interferometry. In our apparatus, two clouds of laser-cooled rubidium atoms are launched in a fountain configuration and simultaneously interrogated by a Raman-pulse interferometry sequence. The system has recently been upgraded and its stability re-evaluated. We also discuss the recent progress of the e...

Identification of Spaceborne Microwave Radiometer Calibration Sites for Satellite Missions

The first dedicated soil moisture satellite mission will be the European Space Agency's Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity (SMOS) mission. This satellite, scheduled for launch in the second half of 2009, has a new type of satellite design that is based on the radio-astronomy technique of simulating a large antenna from a number of smaller ones placed some distance apart. Because of its unique des...

GGP Ground Truth for Satellite Gravity Missions

The launch of the satellite GRACE heralds a new era of high precision, time-varying, satellite measurements of the Earth's gravity field. An important aspect of the mission is to consider how the predicted high-accuracy gravity data might be validated. Two kinds of validation have been proposed; the first is internal, whereby the data are modeled for self – consistency to verify the internal ac...

Atom Interferometry on Atom Chips - A Novel Approach Towards Precision

We have proposed and experimentally demonstrated a new technique for creating spin squeezed states of distant atoms by their common interaction with a driven resonator mode. Using this technique we achieve the largest spin squeezing to date, 5.6dB of improvement in signal-to-noise ratio over the standard quantum limit. We have demonstrated a squeezed atomic clock that reaches a given precision ...

Gravity Field Analysis from the Satellite Missions CHAMP and GOCE

This work describes global gravity field modeling from observations of the CHAMP and the GOCE satellite mission. In the case of CHAMP the so-called Energy Balance Approach is applied to measurements of GPS high-low tracking of the low orbiting CHAMP spacecraft. In the case of GOCE gravity gradiometry is the main observable. The experience gained processing real data of the CHAMP satellite missi...
